The Details:

Shannon’s first degree was a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She secured a teaching position on an Indian Reservation in Minnesota, where she found many children suffering from abuse, abandonment, and other difficult situations.  She realized helping children with such serious experiences would require more education. Those who try to help someone with abuse can cause more harm if they don’t understand the dynamics of abuse.  However inadvertently, ignorant comments or questions can add additional shame or blame to the victim.
